Burp Cloths and Receiving Blanket: Gender Neutral

My sweatshop has re-opened again, unexpectedly. If people continue to have babies, and I still have the ability and energy to sew, they are getting a homemade gift.

This is for my friend Christine who is 3 weeks behind me in pregnancy: they are not finding out the sex, so gender neutral
It is!

Baby Wong's Nursery

The nesting instincts they talk about are real...I might as well have been a little bird frantically flying around looking for the perfect twig to add to the nest. I wonder of those little bird mommies have bird daddies who look on and shake their little bird heads.

Proud to present the nursery! Thanks to my husband for building and moving everything around!

Yellow & Gray Theme: Gender Neutral Since Planning Began at 16 Weeks

DaVinci Crib, Pottery Barn Kids Wool Chevron Rug, Frames from Ikea, and Paper from Paper Source, Middle Frame inspired by Pinterest and love of fat chubby animals, Crib Skirt is homemade!

The changing table is actually just a West Elm desk we have had since we were married. Recognize the changing pad cover I made?

Up close view of artwork before it was hung!

Nursery Curtains

I was commissioned to sew curtains for a friends nursery, whose baby is 10 weeks older than our child yet to be named. Just saw them hung up with grommets today in their nursery. They figured out the grommet part, thankfully.

Hostess Gifts!

I was privileged to be thrown a second baby shower by my dear friends in Pasadena. So to say thank you, I sewed them some little pouches and filled them with chocolate. Kinda went crazy with the pics. Thanks Grace, Rita, Laura, Priscilla, Liz, and Angela!!

Baby Project #8: Nursing Cover

If you have seen the Bebe Au Lait covers, those are the inspiration behind mine. I just made my straps Velcro-on instead of using D-rings, which I can't stand.

I also had a face towel that was ruined by bleach stains that I repurposed by sewing them as pockets on the inside, to clean up the baby's spit-up, vomit, poop, pee, whatever liquid projectile that comes out while I'm nursing. Oh, the obvious: milk!

Just used fabric, boning, and Velcro. Pretty pleased with my first nursing cover. Blogs that inspired this were:

The before:
Fabric,towel, and boning

The after: nursing cover!

Proud mama-to-be: Saved $25!

The other side: towel corners for spit up

Baby Project #7: Repurpose Boxes for Baby's Shelf

This white shelf came with the condo when we rented it (clearly from IKEA). It usually sits in our hallway when you walk through the door. But we moved it into the baby's room and I collected a bunch of shipping boxes and covered them with fabric. Now they serve as little totes for baby's socks, shoes, bibs, bottles, diapers, you name it.

After Picture:

Some of the compartments:
Bibs
Burp cloths
Socks and shoes
Diapers
Receiving blankets and nursing covers

Books for the baby:

Pics of the family (she needs to know who her grandmas grandpas aunties and uncles are!)

For fun: Painting Pottery!

Before BB comes, (that's Cantonese for baby), I wanted to do one last pottery painting bc I love it so much. Color me mine does $1 studio fee the first Friday of every month. Apparently you need to reserve a spot, so I walked in and was on a waiting list. When they realized I wouldn't leave that evening without painting a piece, they kindly let me float around at different tables before the people who reserved them showed up.

It was rushed because I didn't know how much time I would have, but I like the overall design.

Baby Project #6: Diapers and Wipes Case

Last project before baby (others to be posted once better lighting hits our apt): a clutch for bringing diapers and wipes on the go!

This matches the nursing cover I made (to be posted!)

I figure nursing and pooping go hand in hand, so they should coordinate :)
